Hexagon Advances its PNT Roadmap with the Acquisition of Inertial Sense

Hexagon’s acquisition of Inertial Sense supports Hexagon’s strategy for scalable growth in autonomy, aerospace, and defense markets, and strengthens its positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) portfolio, expanding resilient navigation capabilities.

Hexagon announced the successful completion of the acquisition of Inertial Sense, strengthening its assured positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) portfolio with tactical-grade GNSS+INS technology.

The acquisition advances Hexagon’s assured positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) roadmap by strengthening its ability to deliver reliable, high-performance navigation in GNSS-denied or degraded environments.

Inertial Sense’s portfolio includes compact, cost-effective integrated GNSS and inertial systems designed for applications where size, weight, and power are critical considerations. For example, the IMX product line, enables Hexagon to address applications with particularly demanding constraints, adding a complementary capability to its existing technology portfolio and supporting uninterrupted assured PNT performance.

These solutions are particularly well suited to emerging markets such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where reliable positioning must be maintained in dynamic or contested environments. This directly enhances Hexagon’s ability to serve customers requiring resilient positioning in aerospace and defense, as well as compact platforms.

Bringing together complementary strengths
Inertial Systems will be integrated with NovAtel, part of Hexagon, to expand its capabilities and accelerate the delivery of high-performance navigation technologies to a broader set of applications and customers. NovAtel has a long-established position in the assured PNT market, with proven expertise across GNSS receivers, inertial navigation systems, and anti-jam technologies. Integrating Inertial Sense with NovAtel brings together complementary strengths, combining high-precision positioning with low size, weight, and power (SWaP) sensor design.

Inertial Sense’s portfolio of tightly integrated GNSS and inertial systems, including its low SWaP IMUs, enhances NovAtel’s ability to meet increasingly demanding platform requirements without compromising performance or cost. This creates a more balanced and scalable offering across a broad range of SWaP, performance, and economic constraints.

More than 30,000 inertial systems deployed worldwide
Inertial Sense is a trusted provider of high-performance navigation solutions, with more than 30,000 inertial systems deployed worldwide across defense and commercial applications.

While NovAtel already offers high-performance GNSS and inertial solutions, this acquisition enhances its portfolio by extending capabilities into more compact and cost-optimized segments.

Inertial Sense complements NovAtel’s existing high-end solutions with smaller, lower-power form factors, enabling greater accessibility for embedded and higher-volume applications. This strengthens NovAtel’s ability to scale assured PNT across both premium and cost-sensitive markets.

Rather than introducing an entirely new capability, the acquisition broadens the portfolio, ensuring NovAtel can address a wider spectrum of application requirements and price points.

Product integration roadmap
Inertial Sense will continue to supply its existing solutions as it is integrated into NovAtel. In the near term, customers can expect the continued availability and support of current Inertial Sense products.

Over time, Inertial Sense’s technologies will become an integral part of an expanded GNSS and inertial portfolio. This broader offering will provide greater flexibility, enabling customers to select solutions that align with their specific platform requirements without compromising SWaP constraints.
