Huge airborne geophysics survey for the Top End

One of Australia’s largest-ever regional airborne geophysics programs has launched across the Northern Territory’s Top End, with the Pine Creek and Cape Scott surveys set to collect high-resolution magnetic and radiometric data across nearly 47,000 square kilometres at 200-metre line spacing. Funded through the NT Government’s Resourcing the Territory program and delivered in partnership with Geoscience Australia, the publicly available datasets are designed to sharpen understanding of the region’s geology and open new doors for mineral exploration across some of the Territory’s most prospective, and underexplored, terrain.
Thoughts From Engineers: Locating Wetlands for Better Planning

The Wetland Intrinsic Potential tool, developed at the University of Washington, uses lidar-derived terrain models and a random forest machine-learning model to surface “cryptic wetlands” seasonal, forested, or otherwise hard-to-detect areas that conventional mapping consistently misses, and in one Washington watershed test case found more than twice the acreage identified by the National Wetlands Inventory.
