As has been discussed here at Geo Week News and many other places frequently over the last few years, demand for civil engineering and other AEC firms to work on infrastructure projects has been steadily growing in recent years. In the United States specifically, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law in 2021, kickstarted much of this work, but the demand is growing worldwide. Infrastructure built last century is aging out, making inspection, maintenance, and, in many cases, replacing these assets crucial.
However, as this demand is growing, the ability for many of these firms to find skilled and trained workers to complete crucial work on these projects is diminishing. It’s a gap felt throughout the AEC industry, and is exacerbated within infrastructure specifically due to the aforementioned demand. There are long-term strategies that need to be identified and implemented to address these workforce issues, but in the short term, new forms of cutting-edge tools are helping to bridge this gap.
This is the topic that will be covered in an upcoming webinar being hosted by Geo Week News. On May 14 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Eastern Time, the Geo Week News team will host a 60-minute discussion on this very topic with leaders from organizations completing much of this work and leading the charge on adopting these new tools. Use the button below to register for this free webinar, which will feature insights from a panel that includes Carlos Femmer of HDR, Kourosh Langari of Caltrans, and Russell Hall from Langan.
This moderated panel discussion is sure to provide insights on people looking to implement these new technologies for their firms, and while the conversation will largely be specific to infrastructure projects, the insights can be applied to any AEC workflow. Our panelists will be talking about the specific tools they are using to help make their work more efficient and higher quality, with commentary on things like BIM, mobile mapping units, drones, lidar, and more. They will share how they are using these technologies, and for what types of projects certain tools might make the most sense.
As anyone in the industry would know, the implementation of these new technologies is not always a smooth ride, and this webinar will touch on not just the strengths of these tools but also the weaknesses. The webinar will get into some of the challenges that can come from initial implementation and what new users should be aware of that they might not know about when first getting started with a new type of tool. These insights will, of course, be joined by the success stories that have come from this technological adoption.
With this discussion being at least partially targeted at those AEC professionals who are either considering implementing this technology for firms with which they are primary decision makers, or professionals who are trying to convince their firms’ leaders to implement tools, panelists will share some best practices on these parts of the implementation process. Expect to hear some insights as to how conversations can be framed to encourage more adoption from firms, as well as tips and tricks for the initial adoption, including what roadblocks to expect and how to set yourself up to best evade these pitfalls.
For anyone struggling with these issues and curious about how these tools can help their firms meet the challenge that comes with increasing demand and shrinking workforces, this webinar will provide crucial insights, best practices from industry leaders, and tangible success stories that have come from embracing these cutting-edge tools.
