Spatial Media Acquires UAV News Publication Recruits Industry Veteran for LIDAR Magazine

July 1, 2015 – The UAVBTR archive and readership will integrate with LIDAR Magazine, now in its fifth year as a print publication. Roland will succeed LIDAR Magazine Managing Editor Dr. Gene V. Roe effective with the July/August issue.

Allen Cheves, President and Publisher of Spatial Media stated “On behalf of our entire team, I want to thank Gene for his contribution over the last five years. His editorial stewardship resulted in a must-read publication and thought-leadership archive that will benefit the industry for years to come.”

In 1992, Mangold founded Earth Observation Magazine (EOM) for the burgeoning earth imaging market and rapidly expanded it into a monthly publication. Upon selling EOM in 2003, he became involved with LIDAR mapping services, management of the International LIDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF) and other industry projects. After more than two decades in the business, Roland is well versed in LIDAR and earth imaging technology.

Says Mangold “Spatial Media is uniquely positioned to assist readers across a variety of GeoTech markets with making sense of LIDAR and UAS-implementation. As data collection efficiencies advance, we grow closer to the reality of 3D GIS, something I have followed for more than 20 years.”

Cheves went on to say “Roland’s unique perspective and industry experience will serve hungry reader groups well; his enthusiasm and ability to present the business case will continually encourage our subscribers to invest in LIDAR, UAS and other developing technologies.”

Spatial Media will continue to publish LIDAR Magazine in print form 8x annually. The magazine’s website and content archive will merge with the UAVBTR website at www.lidarmag.com. Dr. Roe plans to continue the “In the Scan” blog independently as LIDAR News. Founded in 2003, Spatial Media also operates The American Surveyor Magazine, GISuser.com, the Machine Control brands and other Geo-Technology focused properties.
