Optech Promotes Farrington, Iavarone

Optech promoted Glenn Farrington to business unit manager for Airborne Survey Products, a new business unit combining the company’s ALTM (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper) and SHOALS Airborne Laser Bathymeter businesses. Farrington was formerly operations manager for the Airborne (ALTM) Division. The move follows Optech’s promotion of Albert Iavarone to business unit manager for Industrial & 3D Imaging Products, the unit formed to bring together the ILRIS-3D, CMS (Cavity Monitoring System), and Sentry SR, Sentinel and Watchman object-positioner and level-monitor businesses. Iavarone had been product manager for the Laser Imaging Division, in charge of ILRIS-3D. Optech VP of sales and product strategy Brent Gelhar told us during a visit here with Iavarone that the changes are part of Optech’s evolution over the past few years, driven by president Don Carswell, from a specialty systems integrator to a mainstream LIDAR product manufacturer – as Gelhar put it, “from a project-based technology company to a product-based technology company.”
