New Rugby 800 series only commercial laser with military-standard construction, and IP68 enclosures rating

Leica Geosystems, the world‘s leading manufacturer of 3D laser scanners including digital airborne and lidar sensors for the geospatial industry, debuted its Rugby 800 Series construction laser for harsh, job site conditions, calling it “the toughest laser in the market today.”

Headquartered in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, Leica is part of Sweden’s Hexagon Group and maintains U.S. headquarters in Norcross, Ga.

Leica said the new Rugby Series “never breaks or has any down-time” because they are the only commercially available lasers certified to the U.S. military’s environmental and climatic conditions standard for construction (MIL-STD 810G) and the internationally recognized, submersible IP68 enclosures rating, which means “dust tight” and protected against complete, continuous submersion in water.

The series’ flagship model is the Rugby 840, a multipurpose horizontal/vertical laser for all leveling, aligning and squaring applications with an automatic calibration feature to ensure highest accuracy and reliability.

Unique Smart Targeting, Smart Lock functions

The Rugby Series’ intelligent Smart Targeting functionality allows construction workers to tie-in slopes (in single and dual axis) and to align the beam in vertical automatically with the touch of a button.

Once the laser is setup on the starting point the second point can be positioned automatically by using the new Leica Rod Eye laser receiver without the need to walk back to the laser or using a separate remote control.

The laser’s Smart Lock functionality continuously monitors the laser plane in real-time, eliminating errors. Should the laser plane move out of the tolerance range, the laser will indicate the movement with an alarm, an ideal function for batter board and façade applications requiring a fixed installation of the system and laser plane.

Leica said the Rugby laser’s new Maximum Temperature Stability technology always provides the highest accuracy over the working range without drifting.

Intelligent accessory options, such as the solar power concept enable you to charge the batteries anywhere, anytime.

The entire Rugby series of lasers carry a new generation of unbreakable, lithium-ion battery packs that are interchangeable and can be charged anywhere on site. The new Rugby lasers also use a solar panel for charging that can be attached to the carrying case.

Lifetime warranty: 5 Years No Cost, 2 Years Knockdown

The included PROTECT warranty covers the entire product lifetime including free of charge repair or replacement for all products that suffer defects as a result of faults in materials or manufacturing.

The 5 Year No Cost period includes the repair or replacement of all defective parts including labor time, adjustment and calibration.

Should any knockdown occur within two years, all repairs to the internal self-leveling assembly will be covered under the warranty policy.

The Rugby 800 Series has been available since March in the EMEA sales region (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and in all other countries last month.
