Autodesk scoops up construction automation company Pype

Autodesk Acquires Pype
Autodesk to Acquire AI-Powered Construction Software Provider Pype

In a move to strengthen their Construction Cloud products, Autodesk has announced that it has a signed agreement to acquire Pype, a startup construction project management software company.

Pype was founded in 2015 as a provider of software that automates construction workflows like submittals and project closeout. Pype’s suite of software aims to reduce manual entry and human error through the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Pype leverages AI to automatically analyze and extract critical construction data (such as project plans and specifications) to be used throughout the project lifecycle.

In a statement from Sunil Dorairajan, Pype CEO and Karuna Ammireddy (CTO), they hope the combination will make Autodesk’s tools even stronger.

“Our vision for Pype is to provide solutions that automate manual construction workflows for increased productivity and reduced risk and we are proud to join our powerful set of solutions with the Autodesk Construction Cloud to supercharge our joint contributions to the construction technology landscape.”

Building on Autodesk’s past acquisitions, the acquisition of Pype will serve to help connect people and
data across the entire building lifecycle – from design through operations. Pype’s technology should enhance Autodesk construction product offerings by automating critical project workflows, enabling our customers to increase productivity and decrease risk on their construction projects. Since 2017, Autodesk has invested in nine construction technology startups. The company also acquired Assemble, BuildingConnected and PlanGrid; these three acquisitions alone total more than $1.1 billion.

Autodesk Construction Cloud (which brings together the aforementioned products and BIM 360) connects office and field teams to help coordinate complex construction and design tasks.

Following the acquisition, Autodesk plans to integrate Pype products with Autodesk Construction Cloud. Pype’s product suite includes:

  • AutoSpecs: Allows construction professionals to generate submittal logs in a matter of minutes
  • Closeout: Accelerates the construction closeout process via an easy-to-use, centralized dashboard and automated document collection
  • eBinder: Automatically converts hundreds of closeout documents into a fully indexed, hyperlinked and searchable turnover file
  • SmartPlans: Extracts submittals, product schedules, and contract compliance requirements from drawings

“While risk is inherent in the construction business, leveraging artificial intelligence to automate tedious yet consequential data and processes significantly reduces project risk associated with human error,” said Ammireddy.

“Together, Pype’s solutions with Autodesk Construction Cloud will enable customers across the industry to mitigate risk during each step of the building process.”
