Viztu Technologies’ Hypr3D also works with video

ROCK HILL, S.C. – 3D Systems, known mostly as a 3D printer manufacturer, continued its run of acquisitions last week with the buy of Viztu Technologies, which is the developer of Hypr3D.com, where users can upload photos and video and turn them into printable models, not unlike Autodesk’s 123D Catch. 3D Systems said in a press release it intends to integrate this technology with its Cubify.com platform, which includes the consumer-targeted Cubify 3D printer.

Terms of the deal were not announced, but Viztu’s founders, Ash Martin and Tim Milnes, will join 3D Systems and continue to work on their technology and its integration with 3D Systems.

“Viztu adds an important building block to our growing Cubify platform. Now everyone can begin to express themselves in 3D as easily as snapping a picture,” said Cathy Lewis, VP of global marketing for 3D Systems, echoing an interview she did with SPAR earlier this year, where she said 3D Systems believed data capture was vital to the growth of the 3D print industry: “We believe that this investment will accelerate the democratization of the entire 3D create and make experience for everyone.”
