Beck Technology is growing

BIM/laser scanning evangelists Beck Technology have announced they’re opening up a new office in Washington, DC:

Strategically located just south of the Washington Reagan National airport in the popular Old Town, Alexandria area, Beck Technology’s office is located at 200 Dangerfield, Suite 103, Alexandria, VA, 22314. Stephen Stoltz, a long time member of the Beck Technology team will manage the office. Stoltz, who previously worked in Beck Technology’s Dallas, TX headquarters location, has considerable experience working remotely with DC-based clients.

Beck has been doing some work with the government – notably selling its BIM software, DProfiler, to the Department of State and doing some laser scanning work for the GSA - so it makes sense that they’d want to be closer to their customers.

I saw this pretty often in the security industry, where Homeland Security was often a good customer, but, in the end, while the government seems like a big market, it’s much smaller than the commercial/industrial market that should follow-on quickly after any kind of government adoption. The great thing about a DC office is that you get access to the vast amount of corporate offices in the Maryland/Delaware/Virginia area, too.

BIM is hot, hot, hot in the AEC community. Whether it’s all talk or there’s real business there is still being figured out. But it looks like Beck is seeing enough there to be making significant investment in going after the business.
