Optimotive Launches IRIS MK2 Outdoor Data Collection Robot

Building Information Modelling (BIM) Virtual Design Construction (VDC) and Onsite Inspection and Preventative Maintenance targeted with automated all-in-one solution.

June 9, 2025 – Canada-based robotics company Optimotive has announced the official launch of its IRIS MK2 robot. According to a statement from Optimotive, this autonomous robot was “built for muddy, dusty, and unpredictable terrain” in order to enhance “data collection in construction and other challenging outdoor environments.”

Opitimotive reports that the IRIS MK2 was designed to address real-world issues on construction sites, where engineers are often called on to perform manual data capture with tripod-mounted scanners. The IRIS MK2 “can “carry various sensor payloads, automating 3D scanning, 360° photo capture, and remote inspections on complex job sites” and reduce inefficiencies, errors, high costs, and poor data quality.

Scott Fairley, CEO and Founder of Optimotive, said, “We designed IRIS from the ground up for the real world, not the lab. IRIS MK2 is rugged, flexible, and powerful enough to work in environments where others fail. It’s not just a robot, it’s a force multiplier for digital transformation on industrial job sites.”

Technical highlights of the IRIS MK2 include:

  • A modular payload system, which is customizable to carry LiDAR, thermal imaging, 360° cameras, and more
  • Autonomous Navigation designed for complex, outdoor environments
  • Robot-as-a-Service Model, including flexible leasing with no monthly minimum.
  • Fully Integrated Base Station called “The BOX,” which provides charging, data upload, Starlink connectivity, and solar power, enabling near-total autonomy
  • PointPerfect RTK GNSS by u-blox
