Quanergy Pairs Lidar with PTZ Camera for Perimeter Security

Quanergy Systems Inc. is working on a new smart security solution that combines its Q-Guard lidar security system and Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras to help with perimeter fencing and intrusion detection.

Back in April 2016, Quanergy announced the Q-Guard, a complete LiDAR-based security system for perimeter fencing and intrusion detection. The package includes one or multiple  lidar-based detection sensors (the S3 or M8 sensors) and a perception software module for object tracking and classification. The system creates a virtual fence, and is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying objects within a 150 meter range. It works even during adverse weather conditions and can determine whether an object is human or non-human, and alert the security agent when appropriate.

“Q-Guard is the ideal surveillance solution for long range 3D perimeter detection and wide field virtual fencing,” said Dr. Louay Eldada, Quanergy CEO. “With very long range detection capability and the ability to detect movement and human-size figures, our powerful intrusion detection system has the ability to diminish or even prevent attacks.”

The latest news is that Quanergy has integrated Q-Guard with a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera from Overview Ltd, allowing for real-time detection, tracking, and counting using 3D point clouds and color video. This combination makes it even easier to follow subjects through a designated area, as the system will automatically alert and guide cameras to the area of detection. The system can also zoom, focus, and monitor specific zones of interest, with certain behaviors prompting it to track and record within a given space.

Quanergy demonstrated the solution last month at IFSEC 2017, where Q-Guard used a M8 lidar sensor and Overview’s Hydra Uno camera. The M8 LiDAR sensor provides a 360° field of view, high accuracy, fine resolution and has a maximum range exceeding 150 meters, while the Hydra Uno operates in harsh environments and possesses outstanding accuracy as well as ultra-smooth and rapid motion with continuous rotation in both pan and tilt.

“Current security systems are plagued by inefficiencies and expensive false alarms. By combining these two technologies, LiDAR and PTZ cameras, we have created a new, optimized security solution,” said Dr. Louay Eldada, chief executive officer of Quanergy Systems. “With Quanergy’s Q-Guard and Overview’s PTZ camera, the system can detect security breaches quickly and accurately, and will catch any intrusion. No other system on the market today provides this integrated capability.”
