The commercial 3D technology market has expanded dramatically in the past few years. And it’s not just in one area, either, since we’ve seen exciting developments across the workflow—capture options have expanded to include handheld scanners as well as UAV and smartphone photogrammetry, processing technology has moved to the cloud and other distributed computing environments, and our visualization tools have incorporated the latest developments in gaming and entertainment.

Bentley is among the few companies with a hand in each of those developments. That’s why, when Greg Bentley stopped by our booth at SPAR 3D 2017, I asked him about the latest and greatest in reality modeling technology—and where he thinks the market is heading next.

In Part 1, we discussed the latest 3D tech on the market, and whether he thinks the point cloud is finally past its prime.

In Part 2, we talked about how the 3D mesh is taking 3D tech mainstream, and the future of reality modeling.
