Z and F Grants Leica Geosystems HDS Exclusive Distribution of Imager 5003/HDS4500 in Americas, China, Australia

Zoller+Fröhlich, Wangen, Germany, and Leica Geosystems HDS, San Ramon, CA, modified their OEM agreement to make Leica the exclusive distributor of Z+F’s Imager 5003 laser scanner in North America, South and Latin America, China and Australia. Under the agreement, which was previously nonexclusive, Leica Geosystems HDS markets Z+F’s phase-based scanner under the name HDS4500. In practice, the new deal means that customers in these geographies seeking the Z+F device will buy an HDS4500 from either Leica or a Leica dealer that carries the HDS product line. The new exclusivity covers only the Imager 5003/HDS4500 hardware and does not extend to Z+F’s LaserControl, LFM Modeller or LFM Server software, all of which Leica distributes on a nonexclusive basis. Separately, Leica Geosystems HDS released version 5.3 of its Cyclone software. According to the company, Cyclone 5.3 lets transportation industry users more quickly compute and report vertical and horizontal clearances for overpasses, bridges, interchanges and overhead sign structures. A new polyline segmentation tool reportedly lets users more precisely set boundaries of TIN meshes from scan data. Also for civil, survey and land development applications, the new software lets users import and export results directly in LandXML format. For the process and power industry, Cyclone 5.3 lets users automatically create 3D models of pipe networks from laser scan data instead of having to model one pipe section at a time, the company says. geovisit();
