The Digital Asset and AVEVA E3D in the cloud take centre stage at the AVEVA World Summit 2014

Cambridge, UK: AVEVA announced today the expansion of customer trials of their 3D design software in the cloud, after its debut at the AVEVA World Summit 2014 in Berlin. AVEVA Everything3D™ (AVEVA E3D™) was demonstrated running in the cloud and generated so much interest that an additional session was added to the already packed agenda for keen delegates to find out more.

Another key technology feature of the event was the presentation of AVEVA’s new touch screen platform for visualisation of asset life cycle information. This lastest innovation provides a highly intuitive 3D model based experience to explore and interrogate complex asset information and unlock the power of a living Digital Asset. The next generation platform was presented live throughout the event with the generous support of Shell and Lundin who provided real-life Digital Assets from the Gulf of Mexico and the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Delegates were clearly impressed at the combined capabilities of AVEVA E3D and AVEVA NET™.

The 2014 AVEVA World Summit spotlighted the benefits offered by the creation and management of a Digital Asset to improve project deliverables, reduce risk, and increase operational efficiency. In total there were 16 customer case study presentations from leading EPCs, OOs and shipbuilders that shared the advantage of a Digital Asset approach to their business operations. These customers included AMEC, Jacobs, WorleyParsons, Foster Wheeler, Toyo Setal, RasGas, AREVA, ADMA OPCO, Atkins, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Namura Shipbuilding.

Dave Wheeldon, CTO, AVEVA, enthused about how well the cloud demonstration was received, stating: ‘This is the first time we have shown AVEVA E3D running in Amazon Cloud. Customers were amazed at the performance and ease of deployment. I expect that initially we’ll see a hybrid adoption approach where customers use the instant scalability of the cloud to flex their on-premise installation. While the cloud brings challenges we believe it offers our customers massive potential to mitigate rising infrastructure costs, so we are investing to ensure they have a fully productive cloud environment and excellent user experience.’

Commenting on the reaction to the cloud and touch-screen demonstrations, Mat Truche-Gordon, EVP Business Strategy & Marketing added: ‘This breakthrough in the performance of our cloud-based solutions will be significant for our customers in meeting requirements to flex additional global resources and adapt quickly to change. We see the cloud as an enabler that works alongside our customer’s existing infrastructure and contractual models. We are seeking to give our customers greater agility and not force them to replace their current best practices.”

‘With the combination of customer case studies and reaction to our roadmap, the AVEVA World Summit 2014 was undoubtedly the most successful yet,’ added Steve Tongish, VP Marketing at AVEVA. ‘We engaged with over 300 customers and partners from 36 countries. We look forward to next year when we will be welcoming our customers from around the world to the 2015 AVEVA World Summit in Dubai. Registration is already open.’
