New Trimble R12 receiver boosts surveying performance in "challenging" GNSS environments

Trimble has announced a new addition to its lineup of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) survey receivers. The Trimble R12 GNSS receiver is a high-performance surveying solution that is designed to be able to accurate and quickly tackle “challenging” environments.

The new positioning engine on the R12 can handle tree-covered areas.

The new R12 is powered by a new Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and Trimble RTX positioning engine, and includes Trimble ProPoint GNSS technology that allows for quicker measurements in a broader range of environments and conditions. Designed for surveyors working on tough GNSS environments, including those that are near or among trees or in dense built areas, the R12 receiver is aimed at reducing the time needed in the field and increasing accuracy in places that are typically difficult for positioning.

To accomplish this, Trimble has completely redesigned their positioning engine, and the new version can assess all of the current GNSS satellite signals available to it and select the best signal or combination of signals to use. The new Trimble ProPoint GNSS technology allows for flexible signal management, which helps mitigate the effects of signal degradation and provides a GNSS constellation-agnostic operation. The ability to take in multiple signals and to process them has lead them to having superior positioning accuracy, even when compared to their previous products.

In head-to-head testing with the Trimble R10-2 in challenging GNSS environments such as near and among trees, and built environments, the Trimble R12 receiver performed more than 30% better across a variety of factors, including time to achieve survey precision levels, position accuracy and measurement reliability.

Andrew Salmon, Product Manager, noted in an introductory video that they have developed the solution completely at Trimble, even down to the boards.”

“Trimble is designing its own boards to do all of the signal processing, as well as all of the computations that go into producing an accurate GNSS solution.”

The Trimble R12 GNSS receiver is available now through Trimble’s Geospatial distribution channel. For more information, visit: https://trimble.com/R12.
