GSA Invites Feedback on Draft BIM Guide for 3D Laser Scanning

GSA‘s Office of the Chief Architect (OCA) has evaluated 3D laser scanning and other 3D imaging technologies on several projects and will continue to do so on upcoming projects. GSA has used the 3D information for several purposes, including:

  • Historical documentation
  • Facility condition documentation
  • Construction as-built development
  • BIM development

GSA is assisting the development of best practices and standards to provide consistency in solicitation, contracting, delivery, and evaluation of 3D imaging projects. As part of this effort, GSA released a draft BIM Guide for 3D Imaging as part of the GSA BIM Guide Series 03. This draft guide may be viewed/downloaded from www.gsa.gov/bim under the 3D Laser Scanning link.

This draft is a working document, and GSA invites your input for modifications. In particular, comments on the quality assurance/quality control and specification of tolerances aspects of the guide would be appreciated.
