Autodesk breaks down how you can use its new ReCap API


At SPAR3D, Autodesk announced the release of its new ReCap API (application programming interface). What does that mean, exactly? It means that Autodesk will allow users to access and integrate certain functions of the ReCap engine into their own software.

This kind of build-your-own modular application approach is an increasingly popular way of doing things. It’s also no surprise from the company that brought you the Forge platform, which enables users to recombine Autodesk software functions as they want. (That’s a gross oversimplification, but lucky for you SPAR has a great article about Forge that goes into much more detail.)

On site, I caught up with Autodesk senior product manager Michael Mizuno, who offered some insight about how users can exploit this API—whether you make an existing software application, or you’re just getting started.
