3D Printing the Future – The Exhibition, designed and produced by MOSI, makes its debut on June 14, 2014. From fashion to décor, entertainment to toys, medical devices to human organs, 3D Printing the Future – The Exhibition illustrates 3D printing’s boundless and mind-blowing potential to re-shape how we live, work and play, while allowing visitors to try their hand at this transformative technology inside a hands-on workshop. 3D Printing the Future – The Exhibition is a limited engagement and is free with MOSI admission and included in MOSI membership.

3D Printing the Future will offer an inspiring glimpse of the future through 3D-printed objects, live demonstrations, and hands-on 3D printing, along with an in-depth look at how 3D printing technology works, how it is used, and the amazing possibilities for the future. MOSI is partnering with the University of South Florida’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST). AIST, a 3D research center at USF, will be acting as guest curator for the exhibition and showcasing their work to preserve World Heritage in 3D in the exhibition’s Archaeology section. The USF College of Arts and Sciences and AIST will also help to bring exciting speaker series events and technology demonstrations that will give hands-on and interactive learning about 3D printing.

Additionally, MOSI has teamed up with The Dali Museum, who announced its complementary exhibit, “Marvels of Illusion,” earlier this month. The two museums will have reciprocal displays in each of their exhibitions and will offer special discounts to those who visit both museums. MOSI will offer 50 percent off its admission to anyone who presents a ticket stub from The Dali Museum.

Visitors will see 3D printers in action as they take an immersive walk through all applications of 3D printing, including:

3D Medicine
Guests will be able to view 3D-printed medical objects, including 3D-printed body parts and prosthetics, and learn how 3D printing is revolutionizing the world of modern medicine.

3D Science & Technology
Visitors can explore how 3D printing is helping scientists and researchers working in some of the most remote places on Earth. Guests will also learn how 3D printing is being used to help solve crimes, build cars and houses, along with sending replacement tools to astronauts in space.

3D Archaeology
The exhibition’s guest curator, AIST will act as primary content provider for this section where guests can see how this futuristic technology is being used to preserve our past. AIST will illustrate how ancient sites and artifacts are brought to life in surprising detail and show how scientists are using 3D printing and scanning to advance our understanding of ancient people, places and animals.

3D Everyday
In 3D Everyday, visitors will discover everything from 3D-printed furniture and toys to 3D-printed fashion and jewelry. This section will illustrate the modern conveniences that 3D printing can provide in the future, like printing a replacement part for a dishwasher or an extra place setting at the dining table for unexpected company. Additionally, this section shows how the fashion industry has embraced 3D printing as a tool to create beautifully innovative and customized items including clothing, jewelry and accessories that are tailored just for you.

3D Workshop
Because 3D printing is a hands-on world, visitors will have the opportunity to play with 3D printing concepts in this hands-on workshop. Guests will be able to draw with the world’s first 3D printing pen, and bridge the gap between the real and virtual world by building with 3D-printed Minecraft blocks. Families can even take part in an interactive story featuring 3D-printed models. This fun, imaginative story time will offer a glimpse of new ways to tap into the imagination of children through tangible story-themed play that they can design and print out.

3D Live Showcase
This live stage show will feature a variety of fun and fascinating demonstrations, including interactive scanning, a 3D Music Jam Show with actual 3D-printed instruments, and step-by-step walk-throughs of the 3D printing process. This show celebrates the fruits of creativity and the “maker movement” using 3D printing.

With a total size of more than 400,000 square feet, MOSI is the largest science center in the southeastern United States. Learn through play inside Kids In Charge! the largest Children’s Science Center in the nation; The Amazing You—a 13,000-square-foot exhibition on health and wellness; or Disasterville, featuring Bay News 9 WeatherQuest, which combines education and 10,000 square feet of interactive exhibits on the science behind natural disasters. Conquer your fears on MOSI’s Sky Trail® Ropes Course, featuring 35 elements on a 12 – 36-foot-high, multilevel structure, or soar 700 feet on the Sky Trail Zip Line. Budding inventors can engineer anything imaginable and hold it in the palm of their hand in MOSI’s new technology playground and inventor’s studio, Idea Zone, and preschoolers can experiment with friction and collision physics in Slippery Science, a PNC Passport to Science – Grow Up Great Initiative. Additionally, MOSI recently unveiled its newest exhibition Mission: Moonbase, funded in part by NASA, where guests can travel to the moon to operate a lunar colony.
