Abbey Road in 3D

Abbey-Road-front

Ever wanted to see inside the studio The Beatles made famous? Service provider APR services and Google are using 3D scanning to make that possible.

For the “Inside Abbey Road” project, APR Services worked with Stinkdigital to scan and model the inside of the studio for an interactive web experience.

APR’s website explains that they laser scanned Studios 1, 2, and 3, as well as the mastering suite in the early morning. (I bet this is because musicians are notoriously allergic to waking up before noon). The scan data was then simplified to create simplified 3D models and textured with high-definition images.

In addition to the FARO Focus LiDAR, Stinkdigital used a 2D LiDAR mounted on a tripod to help locate the panorama positions for the interactive experience.

Check out the flythrough preview below. And click through here for the full experience over at Google.
