I hear a lot about Hollywood films or big magazines calling in outside scanning expertise to generate 3D models. This might be the first time I’ve heard of an artist–not an architect, not an engineer with artistic tendencies–performing the scanning himself as part of his workflow.
And what a workflow it is: Joan Guasch combines 3D scans, 3D animation, and still photography to create an impossible, colorful world for this music video.
As for the title of my post? The video accompanies the track “Crystal” by the Spanish band Delorean. It’s a tight, bright, dance-y jam. If you’ve ever wanted to dance to a point cloud, here’s your chance.
