LiDAR, Ponies, and Shedding New Light on an Ancient Forest

pony

The New Forest on the British Isles is famous for its wild ponies, but soon it might be famous for something else, too. Since a project began to scan the forest with LiDAR, it has discovered over 3000 new archaeological sites to be added to the historical record. Sometimes I wonder how anyone found ancient monuments before we started using LiDAR.

Watch for some beautiful LiDAR scans and descriptions of ancient British monuments. What’s more, if you’ve ever wanted to hear a description of how LiDAR works set to twinkly guitar music and pictures of ponies, you’re in for a treat.
