3 Questions with Greg Bentley

Sean Higgins and Greg Bentley

Greg Bentley: “[3D] capture is going to become almost implicit by the way of cameras and video. The challenge then, is the appropriate context in which to capture, share, stream and manage with integrity.”

In between sessions at Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2014, I sat down with CEO Greg Bentley for a quick chat (and my video debut). Fortunately for me but unfortunately for you, we covered far too much interesting ground to include in the final video. However, I’ve managed to keep what I think are the highlights of our talk.

I would have loved to include our discussion about Bentley’s next-generation CONNECT software platform, as Bentley was excited to talk about how the software allows easier communication between stakeholders as well as what he called “comprehensive project delivery.” For more on that software, see SPAR’s news story from last week.

I did, however, manage to include nearly all of our conversation about 3D. That includes discussion of 3D deliverables; how  to overcome the challenges of using your 3D data once you capture it; and how Bentley hopes to help you leave the as-built model behind for an up-to-the-moment “as-operating” model. And that’s just to start, really–Bentley has a lot of fascinating ideas about the future of 3D capture, too.
